WA was founded in 1980 as one of the first German UCE Certificate Courses for professionals and managers employed in public and private production and service organisations. There are 560 participants enrolled as part time students of the interdisciplinary subject "Work Science".

WA is organised as a central scientific institute of the LUH, headed by a professor. WA is offering teaching, research and consulting services mainly to employees and employers of the region. These activities aim at the integration of different disciplines of the LUH and the knowledge transfer to various economic sectors.

Zentrale Einrichtung für Weiterbildung (ZEW)
Central Office for Continuing Education
www.zew.uni-hannover.de

ZEW was founded as central office for extramural university education in 1969 to organise academic support to liberal adult education in cooperation with Volkshochschulen of Lower Saxony.
Today it offers a range of UCE programmes for third age students or the open university for women. The range of programmes has been opened to new target groups. There are short courses and modules addressed to managers, specialists and educational professions.
Following the Bologna process the Career Service has become a section of ZEW. Development of key competences to Bachelor students is a growing task in order to foster "employability".

According to the development strategy of the LUH WA and ZEW will merge to a "Scientific Centre for UCE". This unit is supposed to provide academic and service support to all LUH faculties mainly for the formation of part-time Master courses.
